The 2023-2024 wrestling season has begun. One athlete that has been preparing for this upcoming season is Senior Pedro Cruz. Cruz has wrestled for five years now and is a returning Baltimore County Placer (3rd place), and 3A/4A North Regional Champion from last year.

Cruz describes his playing style as fast, technical and smart and aspires to go undefeated this season. Competitions and matches don’t start until Dec. 7, but Cruz is well conditioned according to the Varsity wrestling coach.

“He has put in a lot of work in the off season and hopes to win the County Championship and defend his Regional title,” says Coach Scott Asher.

Outside of school, Cruz can either be found riding his bike or eating his favorite meal, fruit snacks. What is most important to him outside of school is having a good mindset as a student athlete.

“I would say being a student athlete is putting school work before sports, having your priorities straight,” says Cruz.

Cruz has made a lot of fun memories before leaving for college, including the dodgeball tournament he played with the team and hype matches. Cruz does not know his future plans yet, but is considering wrestling during his college career.
