Former Pikesville athletic director is charged for AI-generated recording

According to WBAL-TV, the Baltimore County Police Department (BCPD) arrested former Pikesville High School (PHS) Athletic Director (AD) for releasing an incriminating AI-generated recording impersonating PHS’ principal.

Former PHS AD Dazhon Darien was arrested Wednesday, April 24, for generating a fake recording of the school’s principal, Eric Eiswert. The audio was initially released in January on various social media platforms and depicted a conversation in which Eiswert used profane and discriminatory language to describe PHS students and faculty. The email account that sent the original audio clip was able to be connected to Darien through a BCPD investigation.

Police believe Eiswert’s decision not to renew Darien’s AD contract due to poor performance is a possible motivation for the crime and is supported by Darien’s skills with technology- including AI.

BCPD will hold a press conference at 1:30 p.m. in response to this incident. This story will be updated accordingly.
