I turned my favorite hobby into a lucrative side hustle

Growing up in a large family, I was always the child itching to find work, make my own money and start saving for my ideal future. After trying odd jobs like babysitting and other alternatives, I’ve discovered the best side hustle for a high schooler to make money consistently.

Summer is the season to mow lawns, pick weeds, wash cars, etc. For a long time, I made a large profit performing odd jobs around my neighborhood. Although odd jobs can be nice if you want quick cash, they are largely dependent upon the weather. I can also argue that although babysitting has been a cherished side hustle for me, it can be inconsistent.

Reselling is my favorite side hustle. It is easily the most fun I’ve ever had while making money.

I have earned over $10,000 from selling thrifted vintage items on Depop, a reselling app similar to Ebay or Facebook Marketplace. Every week, I spend about $20 at thrift stores such as Goodwill, Savers and 2nd Avenue Thrift Store. After taking the items home, removing stains and fixing defects, I take photos of each piece and research what the item typically retails for.

Millions of people every second are surfing the internet for certain pieces of clothing or accessories, so reselling thrifted clothing on various apps such as Depop, Poshmark, and Ebay is by far the most consistent side hustle I have found. It’s also the most independent and convenient, as I decide when to work. I can enjoy the thrill of shopping while earning large profits from reselling each found treasure.
