The new release of the Netflix sci-fi film “Leave The World Behind” arouses new conspiracy theories that the film could be a warning for today’s generation.

Released in November 2023, “Leave The World Behind” is a ground-breaking movie, hitting just the spot for conspiracy theorists and sci-fi lovers.

The psychological thriller begins with a family of four – a typical married couple and their two technology-obsessed teenagers – staying in an Airbnb during a getaway to Long Island, New York. About twenty minutes into the movie, the story starts to drop indicators that something is wrong as the family witnesses a gigantic oil tanker running straight onto the coast of the tourist-infested beach. As the couple tries to process their unusual day, they encounter the owners of their Airbnb later that night.

As random as it sounds on paper, the directors did a decent job of making this encounter as realistic as possible.

Confusion and extreme suspicion are written all over the family’s faces when they are informed that a sudden blackout has occurred and the owners need to stay with them in the Airbnb to sort things out. As the film progresses, the group becomes aware of a life-altering cyber attack. They encounter apocalyptic activity such as planes dropping mysterious letters in foreign languages, atomic explosions nearby, piercing sound waves and Tesla cars crashing into one another. There is no doubt that “Leave The World Behind” is a complex allegory.

Given that Barack and Michelle Obama are the executive producers, believing this film has a hidden meaning is extremely justifiable. The former U.S. president’s role in this film’s production gives way to the theory that this film may be a wake-up call for the world. The theme of excessive technology addiction throughout the film is a reference to reality, as technology is being upgraded and abused by the minute. The film may suggest that our world will soon encounter a cyber attack and that our constant technological expansion could be a detriment to our society.

This film isn’t just another dystopian sci-fi movie. “Leave The World Behind” is a wake-up call.
