National Honors Society (NHS) held its annual senior breakfast on April 25, 2024 to congratulate seniors for their display of character, service, leadership and scholarship.

NHS is one of the largest organizations at Dulaney High School (DHS) with over 150 members. Seniors are a crucial part of the society as they motivate and lead the underclassmen. Most seniors were inducted during their sophomore or junior years and work hard to obtain service points. Senior breakfast is typically held towards the end of April, before final exams approach.

Senior Aine Heron, Vice President of NHS discloses the reason for the senior breakfast.

“We hold a senior breakfast to let the seniors know that we appreciate all that they do. The members of NHS have been working since their sophomore years to complete service for their school and surrounding communities and that is most definitely something we want to reward,” said Heron.

Scholarships are awarded during this breakfast to seniors who answered an essay question regarding their service throughout high school. These scholarships come from various fundraising opportunities through the honor society itself. Furthermore, this breakfast celebrates these hard-working seniors who have upheld the four pillars of the society: scholarship, service, leadership and character. At the breakfast, seniors enjoyed muffins, fruit, juice and freshly made pancakes.

“What makes this organization special is how consistently people show up. We may have a lot of meetings, but our members consistently meet their expectations of attendance and represent the NHS pillars,” said Heron.

Disclosure: I am an officer and member of this honor society.
