The FBLA Regional Leadership Conference (RLC) was on January 22nd, 2024 at Hereford High School. The RLC includes competitive events, business themed workshops, and guest speakers.

Future Business Leaders of America is a nonprofit student organization that promotes business education and helps prepare students for careers in business related fields. For Dulaney’s chapter of the organization, the FBLA RLC was held at Hereford High School this year. Various Baltimore County high schools including Dulaney, Hereford, Eastern Tech and Pikesville participate. Schools compete in events, attend workshops, and listen to guest speakers. Senior Riya Mahale, FBLA President, shares her opinion of RLC conventions.

“My favorite part about RLC was the interactive workshops that pushed you outside your comfort zone for skills such as public speaking or impromptu plan making skills,” said Mahale.

At the RLC, FBLA members have the opportunity to attend business themed workshops, setting up these high schoolers for success when pursuing a career in the real world. FBLA officer Lily Xu explains what the workshops consist of.

“The workshops last year included a panel with recent FBLA graduates on how to deal with college, a presentation on being a leader and starting your own business, and an activity of practicing how to pitch goods,” said Xu.

FBLA officer, Deepika Pun, shares her take on the various business skills enforced at the RLC, as well as Dulaney’s typical performance in the events.

I feel like every year I hear about people I know from Dulaney placing first or just very high. The Business skills enforced are networking, teamwork, career planning, listening to experience, and just getting real world experience of workshopping and participating activities professionally,” said Pun.

Dulaney’s branch of the organization is known for winning competitive events to qualify for the State Leadership Conference (SLC). From SLC, Dulaney students are eligible to qualify for the National Leadership Conference (NLC). These conferences feature competitive events such as test-taking, case studies and/or project making based, discussing topics from Accounting to Business Ethics.
