This year Baltimore County Public Schools (BCPS) made the last school day before winter break, Dec. 22, asynchronous.

The asynchronous day can help students recoup as they have anticipated a break.

“I am excited for this day because it’s the last day before break and I can catch up on my work,” said Dulaney High School (DHS) sophomore Ella Forrester.

Teachers are required to take attendance on Friday and students should log into Schoology in order to be marked as “present” for the day. Since the day is asynchronous, there will be no online classroom to attend. The county will assign lesson plans for core classes that will be posted for students to complete.

“Having this asynchronous day before the start of the break is a good way to relax and recover,” said junior Izzie Gehman.

The day allows students and staff members to get a headstart on their winter break. Teachers can grade papers and students can finish up their school work before coming back to school in 2024.
