Dulaney High School 2023 hallway wars competition concludes

Every year each Dulaney High School student class decorates an assigned hallway according to the homecoming theme and their class colors in an event called Hallway Wars. This year’s theme was “Haunted Homecoming.”

Each hallway followed a specific theme related to Halloween. The hallways were judged and the junior class was announced the winners.

The Freshman class hallway was assigned “zombies” as their theme. The hallway featured streamers in Dulaney’s colors hanging from the ceiling, and caution tape covering the lockers. The hallway also included large words in red letters and several tombstones on the walls.

The Sophomore hallway theme was Dracula’s castle. Paper bats hung from the ceiling among blue streamers. The walls were covered in fabric spider webs and blue paper. The sophomore class logo was surrounded with fake bloody handprints.

“We put some cobwebs on the vents just to give it that castle aesthetic,” explains sophomore class president Themistocles Volikas when asked about the design choices.

The Junior class hallway followed a ghostly theme. The ceiling was covered with pink and white balloons, as well as fabric ghosts and streamers. Plastic portraits of ghosts hung on the walls, and pink lights illuminated the class logo.

“We hung balloons and we drew little ghost faces on them with black sharpie markers because our theme was ghosts.” Elaborates class of 2025 president Aditi Desai.

Last but not least, the senior class hallway had a witch theme. Balloons covered the entrance to the stairs with giant spiders sitting nearby on fabric webs. Witches’ hats hung suspended from the ceiling and broomsticks were arranged on the walls.

Senior class president Alyssa Alvarez explains, “We also incorporated spider webs and spiders to elevate the hallway.”
