The National Honors Society (NHS) is a beneficial way for students to get involved in the Dulaney community.

NHS is a selective honors society at Dulaney, made up of over 100 members. The four pillars of the NHS are scholarship, leadership, character, and service, and NHS advisors strive to recruit members who represent these characteristics.

“We want to see how you are serving our Dulaney community in many ways. We want you to be bright, obviously. We want you to excel in your scholastics but to go out and be excellent in other parts of your life as well,” said NHS advisor Dan Lahatte.

There are many NHS events throughout the year, offering opportunities to get involved both within Dulaney or somewhere in the surrounding community.

“We have our monthly connection with St. Francis Church. It’s the first Thursday of every single month where we provide a signup link and volunteers go and help to pack up and distribute food to local members of the community who need a little extra assistance,” said Lahatte.

Students have also gone to the Dulaney Valley Memorial Garden to help lay wreaths in honor of veterans who are buried there.

“It provided a service that was meaningful for the families who are commemorating their family member during veterans day weekend,” said Wreaths Across America Liaison Mia Cooper.

In the future, NHS hopes to do campus cleanups and connect with the Baltimore County Public Library.
