Juice bar energizes with natural alternatives

The phrase “new year, new me” has been plaguing everyone’s minds, and what better way to fulfill those New Year’s resolutions of eating healthier than fueling the body with fresh fruit! Pure Raw Juice Bar, located in Towson, offers customizable meals made straight from nature’s candy.

The interior of the restaurant was almost

as refreshing as its food, with a clean and colorful appearance. Though I expected to be overwhelmed by all the options, I was pleasantly surprised to find how clear the menu is. I chose a regular-sized traditional acai bowl ($9.45) and a Berrylicious fruit smoothie ($7.95).

The staff was friendly and efficient and my order was ready in no time. When I received my bowl, which came in a clear, plastic container, I was taken aback by how photogenic and Insta-worthy it was. And trust me, it tasted just as good as it looked. It had crunchy granola at the very bottom topped with a blended base of acai, banana, and apple juice. To top it off, there was a layer of coconut flakes, honey, strawberries, blueberries, and bananas. The Berrylicious smoothie was made with mixed berries, bananas, and apple juice.

The fruit was fresh and ripe and meshed perfectly with the smoothie base and granola. The smoothie had the perfect texture, it was blended evenly and not too thick or soupy. It was obvious that there were no artificial sweeteners in the bowl or the smoothie—just natural goodness! The juice bar truly lived up to its name.

However, in the acai bowl there were parts of the base that were not completely blended. About three times, I got large, frozen chunks of acai, banana, and apple juice. But overall, this was a minor fault in the delectable bowl.

At first, I thought that the regular-sized bowl would not be adequate in filling me up for breakfast. But I was proven wrong; when I finished the last pieces of granola, I was left with a full stomach and an energized body.

Originally the prices looked daunting, but the high caliber of the food made up for it. I’ve seen other restaurants offer similar option for cheaper prices, but their food is usually packed with unhealthy substances such as high fructose corn syrup and artificial sugars.

Pure Raw Juice also offered many conveniences to people that are busy. If you had little time to enjoy the pleasant atmosphere and scent of newly-picked fruit, you could pick up a lid for your bowl and take it to go

This fairly new juice bar is definitely a hit in Towson. By 10 a.m. the store was crowded and most of the tables were filled with eager customers ready for their early morning juice fix.

The Pure Raw Juice Bar surpassed all my expectations in providing a meal that was not only scrumptious, but made me feel like I could jog home instead of driving. As the Hippocrates quote above the register said, “let food be thy medicine and medicine be thy food.” The antioxidant and vitamin packed options this restaurant provided were nothing short of healing.
