Top 10 movies of 2016

Annabel Park, staff writer

As a movie lover, I am always on the lookout for a new movie to watch. Any genre is fine, but my favorite has got to be action packed movies. 2016 definitely did not disappoint this year when it came to movies

  1. “Now You See Me 2”- I got to say most movies that have a sequel usually aren’t that good, the first one is always the best, but Now You See Me 2, is definitely just as good, maybe even better than the first. If you’re looking for some magic over the break, I highly recommend this movie.
  1. “Zootopia”- If you’re looking for a good children’s movie to watch over the break, watch “Zootopia.” This is not your average Disney animated film. “Zootopia” teaches all of their audiences the importance of friendship and the kind of society that we live in. The plot, revolves a bunny, who dreams of one day becoming a successful police officer.
  1. “Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children”- If you were a fan of this book, well then, you should watch the movie. If you didn’t read the book, then you should still watch it. A mix of fantasy and reality, keeps the audience entranced in the film. A well balanced mix of comedy, drama, and romance, makes this a movie that can’t be missed.
  1. “The Arrival”- Starring Amy Adams and Jeremy Renner, “The Arrival” is a movie about peoples’ first encounter with aliens. This movie delivers one of the biggest twists of the year and creates different perspective of aliens that could be out there. This is a must watch movie.
  1. “Captain America: Civil War”- This movie was probably the most anticipated movies of the year. The Avengers are going through a rough patch, but will they be able to get through it? In addition to seeing our favorite heroes, we are also introduced to some new ones. So whose team are you on, Captain America or Iron Man?
  1. “Moana”- I mean, who doesn’t like a movie where Dwayne Johnson is singing? A new princess addition to the Disney family does not disappoint. Though she may be a princess, this movie breaks all the stereotypes that there needs to be a love interest, but instead highlights that a women can be strong, intelligent, and independent.
  1. “Jackie”- A recent release, about the life of Jackie Kennedy after the president’s death is delivered in an amazing performance from Natalie Portman. This movie will take you on a journey of the not so perfect life of Jackie Kennedy.
  1. “Jason Bourne”- Matt Damon has returned to play his iconic character Jason Bourne. If you were a fan of the four other movies, then you’re in for a treat. The fifth addition to the series is action packed and carries on the legacy of Jason Bourne.
  1. “The Shallows”- It has been a while since there has been another movie about a shark, and this did not disappoint. The buildup of suspense and the constant wondering if the girl is going to make it or not, leaves the audience on the edge of their seats.
  1. “Suicide Squad”- What’s better than having all the good heroes join together, well that would be all the worst villains getting together to fight crime.
