Upper Pottsgrove Police Corporal Sean Farrell Resigns After Voluntary Manslaughter Charge in Fatal Wrong House Shooting of College Student Glen Pysher IV

UPPER POTTSGROVE TWP., PA — The Upper Pottsgrove police corporal charged in the fatal shooting of a 22-year-old college student has resigned from the department, a day after prosecutors said he would face voluntary manslaughter charges.

Montgomery County District Attorney Kevin Steele said Corporal Sean Farrell, 58, shot and killed Glen Pysher IV after the student banged on the wrong door late at night on Sunday, Aug. 23. In a still image released by the district attorney’s office, Pysher is shown with his hands up.

District attorney says video does not back officer’s account

Steele said Farrell’s backup arrived at the scene immediately after the shooting, and the corporal can allegedly be heard on body camera footage saying the man had charged him while screaming and refusing to get down on the ground.

But the district attorney said the video does not show Pysher charging at Farrell. Steele also said it does not show Pysher yelling or screaming, undercutting the account Farrell reportedly gave at the scene.

The case has now become a closely watched example of how body camera footage and witness evidence can shape a criminal case against an officer in a deadly shooting.

Who Glen Pysher IV was to friends and classmates

Friends of Pysher, who was known by some as Bubba, are still trying to make sense of the loss. Some of them are away at college and learning the news from a distance, deepening the shock around the shooting.

Chris Roskos described Pysher as “the sweetest kid ever,” while Evan Radomicki said he kept asking why such a thing had to happen to someone he considered a great individual. Their grief reflects the personal toll the shooting has taken beyond the criminal case.

Farrell turned himself in and was released on bail

Steele said Farrell turned himself in to Montgomery County detectives after the charges were filed. He was then held on bail set at 10% of $75,000.

Before being released, Farrell was ordered to turn over all of his weapons to Pennsylvania State Police. His next court hearing is scheduled for Sept. 10, giving the case its next official milestone.

What voluntary manslaughter means in this case

Voluntary manslaughter is less severe than murder, but it still alleges a killing that prosecutors say happened in the heat of the moment under circumstances that make the shooting criminal. In this case, the charge centers on whether Farrell’s response to the late-night encounter was lawful.

The district attorney’s public comments and the released video frame the core dispute: whether Pysher posed the threat Farrell described, or whether the shooting happened after a mistaken approach to the wrong house escalated into deadly force.

The case leaves Upper Pottsgrove facing hard questions

The resignation removes Farrell from active duty, but it does not resolve the larger questions now facing the department and the community. The shooting happened in a suburban Montgomery County township where residents are now left to weigh how a mistake at the wrong house ended in a college student’s death.

With a court date set and prosecutors pressing ahead, the case is likely to remain a focal point for local attention. It has already raised concerns about police decision-making, the evidence captured on body cameras, and the sequence of events that led to the fatal encounter.

Local news that matters, from Dulaney Griffin.
