Man Fatally Shoots Parents and Himself Near Flamingo and Maryland Parkway in Las Vegas, Police Say After 911 Call Ended With a Gunshot

LAS VEGAS, NV — A man shot and killed his two parents before taking his own life Wednesday morning in east Las Vegas, according to police. The shooting happened after a 911 call from the 1600 block of E. Rochelle Avenue, near Maryland Parkway and Flamingo Road.

Las Vegas Metropolitan Police said the dispatcher heard a gunshot while the call was still active, and then the line went silent. Officers later found three people with apparent gunshot wounds.

Two were pronounced dead at the scene. The third person was taken to Sunrise Hospital, where that person later died.

Dispatcher heard gunshot as 911 call was still open

Lt. Robert Price said the call came in around 9:53 a.m. and reported that a man had shot his parents. What investigators believe happened next turned the emergency call into the final moments of the attack.

According to police, the dispatcher heard the gunshot during the call, which then went silent. That detail gave investigators an immediate timeline to work from as they began sorting out the sequence of events at the home.

Police have not released additional details about what led up to the shooting, but the call itself helped confirm that the violence unfolded in real time while emergency help was already on the way.

Victims were the suspect's parents in their 60s

Detectives believe the shooter was the couple’s son, a man in his 40s. Police said he used a handgun to shoot his mother and father, both in their 60s, before shooting himself.

Investigators have not yet publicly identified the family members by name. Price said the case is being handled as a homicide investigation because the son is believed to have killed the two parents before dying by suicide.

The scene was described only by the block number and nearby cross streets, and police did not immediately say whether anyone else was inside the home when the shooting happened.

Motive remains unknown as detectives review family history

Police said they still have not determined a motive for the shooting. Lt. Price said early checks did not turn up any known domestic violence history, but detectives said they still needed to do a deeper review.

That leaves investigators with more questions than answers about why the fatal encounter happened. For now, police are working through records and other evidence to build a clearer picture of the family relationship and what may have preceded the gunfire.

Authorities did not say whether the handgun was recovered or whether the shooting had been reported before the 911 call. Those details were not immediately available Wednesday.

Neighbors near Rochelle Avenue, Flamingo and Maryland Parkway woke to police activity

The shooting happened in a busy east Las Vegas corridor near Maryland Parkway and Flamingo Road, an area better known for apartments, traffic and steady daytime activity than for major crime scenes. The call location was listed as the 1600 block of E. Rochelle Avenue.

Police response centered on the home where the shooting was reported. The nearby intersection helped orient the public to the scene, but investigators have not said anything about a broader threat to the surrounding area.

No additional injuries were reported. The incident appears to have been confined to the three family members involved.

Police are asking for tips while Crisis Lifeline information is shared

Las Vegas Metropolitan Police asked anyone with information about the case to contact the homicide section. People who want to remain anonymous can call Crime Stoppers at 702-385-5555.

The department also included a crisis message for anyone struggling with suicidal thoughts or worried about someone else. The Suicide and Crisis Lifeline can be reached by calling 9-8-8 or visiting 988lifeline.org.

The call reflects the broader human toll that often follows domestic shootings, especially when a family member dies by suicide after killing others. In this case, police are still trying to understand the chain of events that ended with three deaths in one morning.
