DAYTON, OH — A man was arrested in Dayton after police said he drove through a crash scene in a stolen SUV, took over a police cruiser, and crashed that cruiser into a house. Dashcam video from inside the patrol vehicle shows it plowing through the front of the home in the 2300 block of Greenway Street.
Dayton police said the incident unfolded Thursday, Sept. 3, while officers were working a crash at West Third Street and Gettysburg Avenue. The driver of a Toyota SUV sped through the scene, prompting a pursuit. Police said the SUV had been reported stolen.
Police say the chase began with a stolen Toyota SUV
According to Dayton police, the suspect’s first move put officers into motion as they handled an unrelated collision. The Toyota SUV did not stop after entering the crash area, and officers followed it as part of the response.
Police said the vehicle eventually came to a stop. At that point, the driver got out, stole a Dayton police cruiser, and drove off even after officers told him to leave the vehicle. The shift from one stolen vehicle to another turned a pursuit into a much more dangerous confrontation.
Dashcam shows the cruiser tearing into a house on Greenway Street
The most striking evidence in the case came from the cruiser’s own camera. The dashcam footage shows the patrol car speeding straight through the front of a house in the 2300 block of Greenway Street.
Police have not said in the footage description that anyone was specifically targeted inside the home. But the impact left the residence damaged and brought emergency crews to the scene as officers moved to secure the area and deal with the suspect.
Officer struggle left seven officers hurt during the arrest
Dayton officials said the suspect did not go quietly once officers tried to take him into custody. They said he attacked an officer, tried to get the officer’s gun, and bit the officer during the struggle.
Police said force was used as the man continued to resist arrest. Seven officers were injured during the effort to restrain him. The department did not provide a detailed breakdown of those injuries, but it said the confrontation was intense enough to leave multiple officers hurt.
Two residents were taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries
Inside the home struck by the cruiser, two people were present when the vehicle crashed through the front of the house. Authorities said both were taken to a hospital with injuries that were not considered life-threatening.

Police later linked the suspect to other felony cases in nearby jurisdictions
After the arrest, officers said they learned the man was wanted in connection with several felony cases in nearby jurisdictions. Those cases included a homicide in Miami Township and an aggravated robbery in Moraine tied to the Toyota SUV.
