Man Dies After Car Collides With 18 Wheeler on Germantown Parkway in Memphis, Police Say Early Tuesday Crash Sent One Victim to Hospital

MEMPHIS, TN — A man died after a crash involving a car and an 18-wheeler on Germantown Parkway early Tuesday morning, according to the Memphis Police Department.

Police said one man was taken to the hospital after the collision and later died there. Officials did not immediately identify the victim.

FOX13 crews at the scene saw heavy damage to the car and an ambulance leaving the area. The crash prompted a response on one of the city’s major roadways during the morning hours.

Police say one man was hospitalized before dying

Memphis police said the crash left one man injured badly enough to require transport to a hospital. He was later pronounced dead after reaching the hospital.

No other injuries were mentioned in the police update. Investigators also did not say how many people were in either vehicle when the wreck happened.

The collision was reported as happening early Tuesday, but police have not released a more specific time. The department has also not said whether speed, weather or another factor may have played a role.

Scene on Germantown Parkway showed major damage

Crews from FOX13 described the car as having significant damage after the wreck. An ambulance was seen leaving the scene as responders worked the area.

Germantown Parkway is a busy corridor in Memphis, and a crash involving a passenger car and an 18-wheeler can disrupt traffic quickly. The presence of emergency crews suggested the response was substantial.

Police did not share details about the truck’s condition or whether the driver of the 18-wheeler was hurt. No citation or charge was mentioned in the initial police statement.

What police have and have not said so far

The Memphis Police Department confirmed only the basic facts of the crash: a car and an 18-wheeler collided, one man was transported to a hospital, and that man later died.

Officials have not publicly named the roadway intersection or released the victim’s identity. They also have not said whether the crash was a head-on collision, a sideswipe or another type of impact.

That leaves several questions unanswered as the investigation continues. For now, the known details point to a serious wreck that turned fatal after emergency treatment.

Traffic crashes on major Memphis roads draw quick attention

Crashes on Germantown Parkway often attract attention because the road carries steady traffic through a heavily traveled part of Memphis. When a large truck is involved, the scene can become more complicated for responders and drivers passing through.

Tuesday’s crash added another fatal wreck to the list of recent serious roadway incidents in the city. Memphis police have not said whether any lane closures remained in place after the response.

For neighbors and commuters, the sight of a damaged car and an ambulance at the scene was the clearest sign that the collision had serious consequences.

FOX13 video confirmed the extent of the emergency response

FOX13 crews were among the first to visually document the aftermath, capturing the damaged car and the departing ambulance. Those images matched the police account that the crash left one man dead after hospitalization.

Even without a full investigative update, the scene itself showed the severity of the impact. The combination of a passenger car, an 18-wheeler and a fatal outcome points to a crash investigators will likely review closely.

Memphis police have not announced any further findings. At this stage, the department’s public update remains limited to the fatality and the involvement of both vehicles.
