Suspect in Custody After Fatal Early Sunday Shooting in Brighton Leaves 33-Year-Old Man Dead Near Eagle Boulevard and Prairie Center Parkway

BRIGHTON, CO — A man died after a shooting in Brighton early Sunday morning, and police say an 18-year-old suspect is now in custody. Officers were called to the area near Eagle Boulevard and Prairie Center Parkway around 12:30 a.m. and found a 33-year-old man with gunshot wounds.

Police began life-saving efforts at the scene before the victim was taken to the hospital. He died shortly after arriving there, according to Brighton police. Investigators say the suspect was detained where the shooting happened, and they described the case as isolated.

Officers found the victim near Eagle Boulevard and Prairie Center Parkway

The shooting happened in a busy part of Brighton near the intersection of Eagle Boulevard and Prairie Center Parkway. Police have not said what led up to the gunfire or how many times the man was struck.

What is clear is that officers reached the scene quickly enough to start emergency measures before paramedics or hospital staff took over. Even so, the 33-year-old man did not survive. Brighton police have not identified him publicly.

18-year-old Jeness Torres was arrested at the scene

Investigators say the suspect is 18-year-old Jeness Torres. Police took Torres into custody at the scene and say he was later booked into the Adams County Detention Center. Court filings or further case details were not included in the police update.

Police say Torres faces multiple charges, including second-degree murder. That charge indicates investigators believe the shooting was intentional, but authorities have not released a broader account of what happened before the arrest.

Police say the shooting was isolated and no wider danger remains

Brighton police stressed that the incident does not appear to pose an ongoing threat to the community. They said the shooting was isolated, which means investigators do not believe there is a broader safety risk connected to the case.

That kind of statement is often meant to calm nearby residents after a violent callout, especially when police activity draws attention in a public area overnight. In this case, officers did not report any other suspects or warn of any immediate danger to the public.

Tip line information could help investigators fill in the gaps

Even with a suspect in custody, detectives are still asking for help from anyone who may have seen or heard something. Brighton police are urging witnesses to call the department tip line at 303-655-8740 and reference case number 12CN26005049.

Police have not said whether the shooting involved people who knew each other or whether a weapon was recovered. Any additional witness accounts could help investigators reconstruct the moments before the gunfire and confirm the sequence of events.

Weekend violence ends with one death and one arrest in Adams County

The case now moves forward through the Adams County justice system, where Torres is being held while the investigation continues. For Brighton residents, the fast-moving arrest and the police statement that the incident was contained may ease some concern, but the loss still marks a deadly start to Sunday.

Authorities have not announced a court date or provided a timetable for additional charges. For now, the key facts are the same: one man is dead, one suspect is in custody, and investigators are still working to build the full case.
