YORK COUNTY, PA — Two people were injured after a multivehicle crash in York County Friday night, and the wreck left at least two vehicles burning at the scene. The crash happened around 7:45 p.m. at East Canal Road and Hickory Ridge Circle.
York County Emergency Management’s Ted Czech said the fire spread beyond the vehicles and reached nearby trees. Local fire departments put out the flames, and the road has since reopened.
Authorities have not said how many vehicles were involved in total, and the severity of the two patients’ injuries has not been released.
Flames spread from the vehicles to nearby trees
The fire damage was not limited to the crash site itself. According to Ted Czech, at least two of the vehicles were completely engulfed in flames after impact.
Those flames spread to trees in the area before crews brought the fire under control. The response from local fire departments kept the situation from growing further, but officials have not given a more detailed account of what led to the fire or how it started.
The scene remained active after the blaze was extinguished as crews stayed on site.
Two crash victims were taken to a local hospital
Emergency responders sent two people to a local hospital after the collision. Officials have not identified the injured people or described their conditions.
The extent of their injuries remains unknown, leaving open questions about how seriously they were hurt in the wreck. No additional information has been released about whether anyone else was treated at the scene.
For now, the confirmed details are limited to the number of injured and the fact that both were transported for medical care.
East Canal Road shut down for hours after the wreck
The crash forced East Canal Road to close for hours between Jug Road and Hickory Ridge Circle. That stretch of roadway was blocked while responders handled the fire, the vehicles and the broader scene.
The road has now reopened, easing traffic disruption in the area. Even so, the closure shows how quickly the crash affected a key local route on a Friday evening.
Officials have not said whether any surrounding roads were affected beyond that closure.
Investigators are still working to piece together what happened
Crews remained on the scene after the fire was out, and the crash is still under investigation. Authorities have not said what caused the multivehicle collision or whether weather, speed or road conditions played any role.
No further details have been released about the sequence of events leading up to the flames or the number of vehicles involved. That means investigators are still sorting through the facts of a crash that turned into a fire emergency.
WGAL News 8 said it would continue following the case as more information becomes available.
