70-Year-Old Bicyclist Dies After Vehicle Crash at Kaysville Intersection Near Main Street and Nicholls Road, Closing Southbound Traffic During Investigation

KAYSVILLE, UT — A 70-year-old bicyclist died after a crash involving a vehicle in Kaysville on Tuesday afternoon, according to police. The collision happened near Main Street and Nicholls Road at about 4:05 p.m.

Emergency responders rushed to the scene and medics provided lifesaving measures, but the cyclist died from his injuries. Police said the crash is being investigated, with help from personnel from surrounding agencies.

Crash happened at a busy Kaysville intersection

Kaysville police said the collision took place near the intersection of Main Street and Nicholls Road, a location that sits in a traffic corridor where drivers and bicyclists can easily cross paths. The exact sequence of events that led to the crash has not been released.

Officials did not immediately identify the bicyclist by name. They said only that he was 70 years old and died after being struck in the vehicle crash.

The afternoon timing also meant the area was active when first responders arrived, adding to the disruption around the scene.

Medics tried lifesaving measures before the cyclist died

Police said medics on scene worked to save the bicyclist after the crash. Despite those efforts, he did not survive his injuries.

No additional details were released about the vehicle involved or the condition of anyone else in the crash. Authorities have not said whether any citations or charges are expected.

The focus immediately after the collision was on emergency care and securing the area for investigators.

Southbound Main Street was closed during the investigation

As crews processed the scene, southbound Main Street was closed at Burton Lane. Drivers were told to avoid the area and use alternate routes.

The closure helped investigators examine the roadway and gather information from the crash location. Police said the investigation remained active while multiple agencies assisted at the scene.

Traffic impacts were centered on the southbound side, but the closure likely affected nearby streets as drivers looked for detours.

Surrounding agencies joined Kaysville police at the scene

Kaysville police were not working alone. Personnel from surrounding agencies also responded and took part in the investigation, helping officers manage the crash site and collect evidence.

That kind of multi-agency response is common in serious traffic fatalities, especially when investigators need to document the roadway and piece together how the collision unfolded.

Officials have not said which agencies were on scene or how long the investigation would take.

What officials have not said yet about the fatal crash

Police have not released information about speed, driver impairment, weather, or whether the bicyclist was in a crosswalk or bike lane. They also have not said what direction either party was traveling before the collision.

Those unanswered questions will likely be important as investigators continue to review the crash. For now, the confirmed facts are limited to the time, place, response, and the bicyclist’s death.

Anyone with information would typically be directed to contact investigators, though police did not include a public request in the brief update.

Fatal crash leaves investigators sorting out the final moments

The death underscores how quickly an afternoon traffic collision can turn deadly, especially when a bicyclist is involved. Even with prompt emergency treatment, severe injuries can be fatal before a patient reaches the hospital.

For now, Kaysville police are still working to determine exactly what happened at Main Street and Nicholls Road. The investigation will likely focus on witness statements, vehicle damage, and scene evidence gathered by responding agencies.

Officials have not announced when more details will be released.
