BOISE, ID — Boise police are investigating a deadly stabbing that broke out during a large house party early Monday, leaving an adult man dead and sending detectives back to the neighborhood to look for witnesses.
Officers and first responders were called to a home in the 6000 block of North Duncan Lane about 1:30 a.m. after reports of a stabbing. When they arrived, police said people were running from the party and found the victim on the front porch with a stab wound.
Despite life-saving efforts, he died from his injuries. His name has not been released while family members are notified.
Police say the fight started on the front porch
Investigators said their early findings point to an altercation on the front porch that ended with the man being stabbed. Police have not released a fuller account of what led to the confrontation, and they have not identified a suspect.
The scene unfolded during what police described as a large party, with people leaving quickly once trouble started. The department is treating the case as a homicide investigation through its Violent Crimes Unit.

A friend says she came to pick him up before the chaos
Mackenzie Gates, 17, said she arrived at the home around 1:20 a.m. to pick up the victim and some of his friends. She said more people kept showing up at the house, and the situation quickly became chaotic.
Gates said she initially came to get them to leave with her, but they chose not to go. She said the crowd kept growing before the party got hectic and she eventually left the home.
After learning that her friend had been stabbed, Gates returned to the scene Monday and said she wanted to tell investigators everything she knew.
Text messages raised concern before the party
Gates also said she saw messages in a group chat before the gathering that made her think some people were looking for her friend. She said the messages included talk about wanting to fight people.
Boise police have not said the stabbing was planned, and they have not tied the messages Gates described to the investigation. For now, those comments remain part of her account, not a conclusion from detectives.
Even with those concerns, police have released no details about what happened before the confrontation on the porch or whether anyone had been specifically targeted.
Friends remember a man trying to turn his life around
Gates said she is angry about what happened and wants the person responsible found. She said the victim had been trying to get his life back together and did not deserve to die the way he did.
She added that they had plans to go to church together Sunday, a plan that never happened because of the stabbing. Her comments offered a personal look at the loss behind the police tape.
The friend’s account also underscored how quickly the night changed from a gathering with rides home into a fatal scene that investigators are still trying to piece together.
Violent Crimes detectives keep asking for witnesses
Boise police said detectives with the Violent Crimes Unit are continuing to canvas the neighborhood around North Duncan Lane for anyone who may have seen the fight, the people involved, or what happened after the stabbing.
Authorities have not released any additional information about possible suspects, a motive, or whether weapons or other evidence were recovered at the house. The victim’s identity remains withheld pending next-of-kin notification.
For detectives, the next steps depend on community tips and interviews as they work to determine how the porch fight escalated into a deadly attack.
